Huzzah for King Richard’s Faire!

Stepping into King Richard’s Faire is like stepping into another world. The fictional medieval kingdom located in Carver, Massachusetts, has everything from knights, aerialists, blacksmiths, and even fire-breathers. King Richard’s Faire is a perennial favorite in Massachusetts, giving guests the ability to watch all the different kinds of performers while laughing and shouting "Huzzah!" in addition to walking through artisan stalls to view their handmade wares from around the world.  King Richard’s Faire is a unique and exciting experience for those of all ages.

Performers

The variety of performers is what keeps the faire fun year after year. The most well-known and competitive event is the medieval jousting. It is so much fun to cheer for knights on horseback, to see them engage in "battle", and see the knights bow to the king and queen.

Other classic performances include:

  • Jacques Ze Whippeur, a man with an intentionally horrible french accent and a drawn-on mustache who masterfully does tricks and snaps his whips to comedic music.

  • The Big Cats of the World is an educational show, that lets viewers get up close to a black panther, a leopard, a lynx, and more!

  • The Torture show (that does not actually involve torture) amazes with sword swallowing and fire-breathing.

Most events are family-friendly, but there are several shows that are PG-13; these are noted on the schedule, and they do give warnings at the beginning of the show, just in case. For children only events, they have Prince and Princess Academy and Knight School. New acts this year for all ages also include:

  • The Accidental Acrobats, a duo of contortionists

  • Sir Guy, the comedian

  • Kasam the Masked Master

  • GoGaucho, a dynamic blend of dance, music, comedy and other tricks

  • Mesmerizing music from Moon Chariot

  • Piping by the Portland & District Pipers

One of the most unique shows is The Secret Show! It’s the last show of the night and it's performed by those from different acts. The secret is that you never know what they’ll be doing until it happens and it is one of the most entertaining performances at the faire.

Artisans of the Realm

Another attraction besides the performers is the artisans. They have so many unique things that you can’t get anywhere else. You can buy (or rent!) medieval garb and pirate attire in any size and style, handmade jewelry, swords, leather goods, family crests, and pottery just to name a few. They sell well made wooden swords and shields for kids and kids at heart. You can also have your face painted, get a henna tattoo, and get a tarot reading.

Insider Tips and Info!

  • Bring cash! Ticket and food sales are cash only and while they do have ATMs, there is a fee for using them. Thankfully, due to ye old square reader, most artisans take cards.

  • You can’t enter with outside food or drink unless you clear it with the front office first. But they do let you bring an empty water bottle for refilling.

  • The event does take place in the woods and everything is outside, so sunscreen and bug spray is a must!!

  • They DO have gluten-free, vegan and lactose-free menu selections listed on the website here: https://kingrichardsfaire.net/eat-and-drynk/.

  • While the event is medieval themed, they welcome costumes of all types and I've seen everything from Monty Python, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and DC/Marvel superheroes

The faire runs every weekend until October 20th plus Columbus Day 10:30 AM to 6 PM. Make sure to look at the schedule before your visit because they have some really cool theme weekends coming up like Pirates and Vikings Weekend and Celtic and Highland Weekend. The prices are:

  •  Adults: $34

  • Children 4-11: $17

  • Children three (3) years of age and younger are free
